Adult Mental Health: The Role of Nutrition - WATCH HERE

Information For Teachers/Education Professionals

Nutrition matters all through our lives, for mental as well as physical health and wellbeing. But for children, whose brains and bodies are growing rapidly, it’s especially important.

Poor diets can affect children’s mood, behaviour and ability to learn - not just their risks for obesity and other health problems.  But as even doctors and other health professionals receive little training in how nutrition affects physical health - let alone health and development of the brain - how can teachers and education professionals be expected to make sense of the complicated evidence in this area?

  • What’s the real evidence on sugar vs artificial sweeteners – and so-called ‘energy drinks’?
  • How does the food we eat affect our gut and immune health – and why does that matter for brain health and behaviour?
  • Can dietary changes really make a difference to children with ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorders - or reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, or depression?

At FAB Research, we aim to help you

  • make sense of media articles about nutrition and diet, and understand their real-life implications
  • find out more about the real evidence behind the news stories
  • discover pioneering research that may not reach the headlines
  • learn which kinds of foods and diets can help support better health, wellbeing and performance

The FAB website provides a wealth of free, evidence-based information and resources to help clear up some of the confusion – so why not sign up to our free FAB Newsletters to stay updated.

And by becoming a FAB Associate Member, you'll gain access to additional, exclusive resources – including podcasts, videos and other resources from leading professionals and researchers in the field - so please join us if you can.
