Gosh et al., 2013 - Fish oil attenuates omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid-induced dysbiosis and infectious colitis

Researchers have long known that the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are effective in helping improve human health.  Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help boost both brain and heart health, strengthen the immune system, fight inflammation and, according to the very latest research, omega 3 fatty acids and DHA may assist with the microorganisms that protect against gastrointestinal disease.

At the July 2014 Congress of the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL) held in Stockholm, findings were presented that omega 3 fish oil supplements can improve gut bacteria.

This groundbreaking study at The University of British Columbia took a look at mice that had colitis and examined omega 3 supplementation.   Researcher Deanna Gibson PhD, stated, "These intriguing findings suggest that omega-3 PUFA supplementation with a diet high in saturated fat may be more protective to the GI tract than a diet rich in omega-6 PUFAs."
