Summary

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) causes visual impairment in premature infants, even with timely treatment.

In the Mega Donna Mega (MDM) randomized clinical trial, enteral supplementation with arachidonic acid (AA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) reduced the risk for severe ROP in extremely preterm infants by 50%.1,2 We report which risk factors were influenced by AA and DHA and their interactions with severe ROP.
