ACAMH - East Anglia Branch, in conjucton with The East Anglia Branch of The Association of Educational Psychologists - are delighted to announce this one day conference, featuring Dr Alex Richardson and Mr David Rex
Dr Alex Richardson is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford and founder director of FAB Research. Alex is also the author of 'They Are What You Feed Them' (Harper Thorson 2006). Alex's research centres on the role of nutrition - and particularly fatty acids - in brain function; it is multi-disciplinary in its approach, involving collaborative studies in genetics, brain imaging and biochemistry as well as physiology and psychology. Her latest work is focused on childhood development and psychiatric conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and autistic spectrum disorders, and includes controlled trials of nutritional treatments in these conditions. Alex works closely with education and health practitioners as well as many support groups and charities. She originally trained as a teacher, and her excellent communication skills and clear presentation style are such that she is much sought after by the media, and is very frequently invited to give talks to public and professional as well as academic audiences.
Mr David Rex is the Child Health Lead Dietician for NHS Highland and Healthy Eating in Schools Co-ordinator. David advises approximately 200 schools on a whole school approach to food and health, as part of a multi-agency Highland Health Action Group for Integrated Children's Services. He also provides Scotland's only specialist NHS dietetic clinic dealing with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. David has a first degree in Chemistry and Food Science, a post-graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics, and a Masters in Food Policy. He has over 20 years experience of the food system in posts as diverse as: Food chemist and technical advisor in the food industry; Community and hospital dietician; and Food policy advisor for a Health Authority. He is an advocate for sustainable and socially just food systems, and is passionate about cooking and eating good food.
