  • What links prison inmates, expectant mothers and dyslexic children?
  • What makes a perfect fish pie?
  • What is the future for fish fingers now that cod has become an endangered species?

Answers to all these questions, and a whole host of others, will be answered at this day-long festival of fish. Tackling such issues as the future of fish stocks, the effect of fish on our health and behaviour, and the variety of fish on the menu and its nutritional value, this will be an in-depth look at the fascinating world of fish.

Chef Rick Stein, his brother John (Professor of Physiology at the University of Oxford), Sarah Schenker (British Nutrition Foundation), Charles Clover (Environment Editor, The Daily Telegraph), Prof Michael Crawford (London Metropolitan University Inst. Human Nutrition), Dr Alex Richardson (University of Oxford) and Bernard Gesch (University of Oxford) will be helping to explore all of these issues. The highlight of the day will be your chance to experience Rick Stein's cooking first hand. The Royal Institution's famous Faraday Lecture Theatre will be turned into a fish-lover's paradise as Rick takes you through the selection process, the preparation and then onto the science of cooking.
